Tight driveways are one of those things homeowners just learn to live with - until they don't have to anymore. This Bayou Vista homeowner had a flower bed and grass eating up space right next to the existing concrete. Usable space sitting there doing nothing. We cleared it all out and put it to work.
We brought in our Kubota mini excavator to dig out the flower bed and strip the grass. Compact equipment like that is the right call in tight residential spots - it gets the job done without tearing up everything around it. Once the area was cleared and graded down, we laid landscape fabric as a base layer before any rock went down.
Then came the 1.5-inch white rock. That size is a solid choice for driveway use - it packs well underfoot, drains properly, and holds up to vehicle traffic without shifting all over the place. The white color also gives a clean, finished look that ties in nicely with the existing concrete.
The difference between before and after on this one is hard to miss. What used to be a cramped strip of lawn is now a wide, functional driveway extension. Plenty of room to park a truck, store a boat trailer, or just stop squeezing past each other every time someone pulls in. Simple work, real results.
That's the thing about driveway grading and extensions - you don't always need a full concrete pour to solve the problem. Sometimes the right material and a solid grading job gets you exactly where you need to be, faster and for less.
